Meet the Speakers
Dr. Howard Morgan is co-founder/ partner in First Round Capital, a seed stage venture capital firm. He has more than 30 years of experience with more than two hundred high-tech entrepreneurial ventures. He serves on the boards of Idealab, Kentik, Memsql, Augury and other companies. Howard was a Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell and Caltech. He a Trustee of Cold Spring Harbor Labs and Math For America and is a respected author. He received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1997. He holds a Ph.D. in operations research from Cornell University (1968) and a B.S. from the CCNY (1965).
Meet the judges
Nikhil Basu Trivedi '11 is a Principal at Shasta Ventures in San Francisco, CA, where he focuses on early-stage venture capital investing in consumer-oriented companies. Nikhil joined Shasta in 2012, and has led or co-led the firm's investments in companies such as Bloc, Canva, ClassDojo, Eero, Frame.io, Hinge, Imperfect Produce, Stance, Survios, Tally, Timehop, and Whisper. Nikhil was previously at Insight Venture Partners, and at Artsy, a company he co-founded back in 2009 during his sophomore year at Princeton. Nikhil concentrated in molecular biology, with a certificate in finance, and restarted the Princeton Entrepreneurship Club in 2008.
Sashi is the founder and managing partner of SRI Capital.
Previously, Sashi was the founder and CEO of AppLabs, the world's largest independent software testing company with over 2,500 QA professionals in India, the US, and the UK. AppLabs was funded by Sequoia Capital India. CSC acquired AppLabs in September 2011. Series A investors in AppLabs received a 10X return on their investment in 6 years.
A serial entrepreneur, Sashi has started three other companies prior to AppLabs. These were EZPower Systems (web content management pioneer acquired by DocuCorp, and eventually a part of Oracle), iCoop (group purchasing dotcom), and FXLabs (leading Indian game developer acquired by Foundation 9 Entertainment).
Sashi received his BTech in Computer Science from the IIT Delhi, an MS in Computer Science from NYU, and later a PhD from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
Tripp is a General Partner with August Capital in Menlo Park, CA, and invests broadly in information technology companies, with a particular focus on consumer internet and enterprise applications software. Tripp also leads August’s Special Opportunities fund.
Tripp led August’s investments in ADARA, Bark & Co, Caer, CommonBond, Compology, Hipcamp, Paperless Post, Rocketmiles, Quandl, and Wattpad, and was involved in August’s investments in Avant, Ebates, Fastly, INRIX, Integral Ad Science, Mirantis, PubMatic, RJMetrics, Rockets of Awesome, and Zulily.
Prior to joining August Capital, Tripp spent the previous four years at Menlo Park-based Spectrum Equity Investors. Earlier in his career, Tripp was an investment banker with JMP Securities and BMO Capital.
Tripp is a graduate of Princeton University.
